Why are anti-depressants prescribed?

As the name implies, anti-depressants were initially developed for the treatment of depression. It soon became evident, however, that in addition to improving one’s mood, anti-depressants had an anti-panic and anti-anxiety effect.

Today, anti-depressants are the usual choice of pharmacological intervention for anxiety disorders also including panic disorders.

What are the most common types of anti-depressants abused?

The most commonly abused anti-depressants include:

  • Prozac
  • Paxil
  • Celexa
  • Zoloft
  • Effexor
  • Lexapro

These come in multi-colored capsules and tablets.

  • criminal behavior
  • confusion
  • incoherent thoughts
  • paranoia
  • hallucinations
  • psychosis
