Soma Withdrawal and Detox

In this Special Report, John Giordano, founder of The National Institute for Holistic Addiction Studies, discusses the subject of Soma Withdrawal and Detox.

What is Soma?

Soma, carisoprodol, is a prescription muscle relaxant to reduce certain types of pain and muscle tension.

It is rarely prescribed for medical purposes, but it is frequently abused and is a scheduled and controlled substance in some states.

Soma can be fatal in overdose.

Somas potential for causing addiction is well known. People can become addicted to Soma and similar drugs even when these drugs are prescribed for treatment.

Others deliberately use Soma to enhance the effect of alcohol or other drugs.

What is Soma withdrawal?

Soma acts directly on the central nervous system rather than directly on the skeletal muscles.

These drugs seem to interrupt neurological communication with the spinal cord in certain areas of the brain, resulting in sedation and altered perception of pain.

Physicians estimate as little as two weeks’ use of the drug Soma can create physical and psychological addiction and dependence within users.

Even patients following their prescribed dosing instructions are at risk when using these drugs.

What are Soma withdrawal symptoms?

After discontinuing the use of Soma, withdrawal symptoms can include abdominal cramps, headache, insomnia, chills, and nausea.

What is Soma detox?

Treatment for Soma addiction is similar to the treatment for other carisoprodol-like medications.

Admission to a medically-supervised detox clinic will help the user to manage negative withdrawal symptoms.

In order to minimize the effects, it is recommended to gradually reduce the use of Soma with the help of a healthcare professional.
